Program recognized for driving innovation and strategic vision
The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), the world’s leading organization dedicated to defining standards, certifications, and best practices to help ensure a secure cloud computing environment, is excited to announce that its AI Safety Initiative has been named a winner of the 2025 CSO Awards, which recognize organizations for their exceptional security projects and initiatives that showcase substantial business value and innovative thought leadership.
The AI Safety Initiative is the premier global coalition of experts, uniting leaders in AI, cloud security, and compliance in developing trusted guidance and tools for deploying AI solutions safely, responsibly, and in alignment with industry standards. Its goal is to reduce risks and amplify the positive impact of AI across all sectors.
“We’re deeply honored to accept the CSO Award in recognition of our groundbreaking AI Safety Initiative, a strategic initiative which reflects our commitment to advancing the future of cybersecurity at both the organizational and industry level. This initiative represents the collaboration, foresight, and execution of an incredible team focused on driving meaningful, long-term impact in how we approach security and risk management across the AI landscape,” said Jim Reavis, CEO and co-founder, Cloud Security Alliance.
Dedicated to crafting and openly sharing reliable guidelines for AI safety and security, the AI Safety Initiative was established in partnership with Amazon, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, along with experts from the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency, other governments, academia, and a wide swath of industries. It equips customers, regardless of their size, with the tools, templates, and know-how for deploying AI in a safe, ethical, and compliant manner. By aligning with government regulations and adding agile industry standards, the initiative bridges the gap between policy and practice.
The AI Safety Initiative is actively developing practical safeguards for today's generative AI, structured to help prepare for the future of much more powerful AI systems, in these core areas:
- Comprehensive AI readiness for organizations
- AI usage guidelines tied to existing security and governance frameworks
- Appropriate due care guidance to ethics and issues unique to AI
- Improving cybersecurity through appropriate use of AI
- How AI can be directly attacked to assist AI’s continuous improvement
- How malicious actors can, will and are using AI
- Anticipate future challenges of AI and set a roadmap in place
“The scope and complexity of cybersecurity responsibilities are expanding rapidly—especially in the face of emerging AI-driven threats,” said Beth Kormanik, Content Director of the CSO Conference & Awards. “This year’s CSO Award winners exemplify how today’s security leaders are meeting these challenges head-on.”
“From deploying machine learning to detect sophisticated attacker behaviors to implementing passwordless authentication across large organizations, these initiatives reflect the value of bold, forward-thinking security strategies,” Kormanik added. “We congratulate the winners and look forward to honoring them, along with the broader security community, at this fall’s CSO Conference & Awards.”
